This is the active volcano in Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. It is called Kilauea and there is a smaller crater named Halema'uma'u. Currently, there is a new vent in this crater, which can be seen giving off steam. This is a popular tourist attraction. Kilauea has sticky lava, which can cause severe destruction, but generally gives enough time for evacuation.
I bet all that ash is a pyroclastic flow :3
ReplyDeleteThe lava in Hawaii is generally basaltic and runny. It creates a shield type volcano or lava plateau.
ReplyDeleteBre...pyroclastic flows generally come with composite volcanoes with steeper slopes on continents.
