kettle holes are dips in the landscape that are formed by blocks of ice carved out of a sliding glacier. they are erosional

Post #20 Last chance and review

This is your last chance to make any posts that you have missed since Sem 2 started. That is # 13 through # 19. Any posts after Friday June 10th will not be counted.

Post # 19 Solid Waste Management

Find a picture of how humans deal with solid waste (Landfill, compost, incineration, recycling, hazardous waste, toxic waste, sewage, etc). What are some of the environmental effects of this type of waste disposal (Good or bad).

Find a picture representing one of the following alternative energy sources we have covered (solar, wind, geothermal, tidal, hydrogen fuel cell, biomass, hydro). What are the benefits and drawbacks of your choice?

Post a picture of deforestation. is it tropical deforestation or coniferous deforestation? Where, why, and how is it happening? What are the consequences? Are there any solutions or ways it could be done more sustainably?

Post a pic of an abuse of water. Eutrophication, thermal pollution, toxic chemical pollution, oil spills etc. How did it happen? Can anything be done about it?

Blog #15 Introduced (invasive) species

Research an invasive species. Post a picture of it. What is it? How was it introduced? What problems is it causing?

Post #14 Biomes/Location/Climate

Choose a biome. Find a map that shows its location. Explain how the location impacts the climate of the biome. Be sure to outline the temperature and precipitation of the biome. Good luck!

Post #13 Biomes/Adaptations

Choose a biome. Identify a plant (flora) and an amimal (fauna) found in this biome. Explain how each have adapted specifically to the climatic conditions of the biome? Both can be done in one post or you can do 2 separate posts. Good Luck!

Find a picture that represents one of the causes, effects, or solutions to acid rain. Explain how the picture demonstrates your choice. Good Luck!

Post #11 Violent Weather

Research a Hurricane or a Tornado. Post a picture and give a synopsis of what happened. Where and when did it hit? How were people effected? Good Luck!

Post #10 Atmosphere

Post a picture of a tool that meteorologists use to measure the atmosphere. What is the instrument, what does it measure, what unit of measurement is used?

or...

Post a picture that demonstrates how a land breeze or sea breeze works. You could also post a picture of a the global wind system and how it works.

or.... post a picture explaining how the coriolis force works or how albedo works. Any post should have an explanation.

Post a picture of a glacial feature you have studied. Explain the processes that formed it. Is it a continental or alpine feature? Is it formed by erosion or deposition? Good Luck!

Find a picture of a desert feature that you have studied? Explain how it was formed. Is it an erosional or depositional feature?

Post #7 Karst landscape

Post a picture of an underground river feature (stalactite, stalagmite, flowstone, column, sinkhole/doline). How was it created? Does it have any effect on people?

Find a picture of a river feature. Explain what you can about the feature. What processes created it? What stage of a rivers development is it in? Good luck.

Post #5 Mass Wasting

Research a mass wasting event (landslide, mudslide, soil creep, avalanche, slumping, solifluction, rock fall). Find a picture and explain what caused it and how it effected people.

Post #4 Weathering

Find a picture of a type of physical (Frost shattering, thermal expansion, biotic) or chemical weathering (oxidation, hydrolysis, solution) label what it is and explain the process.

Post #3 Lithosphere2

Post another picture of a feature we have been studying (see post #2). Also, comment on one of your classmates previous posts. Be intilligent using geographic vocabulary. Good luck!

Post #2 Lithosphere

Find a picture of one of the features we have studied so far. It could be one of the plate boundary features: trench, ridge, island arc, subduction zone. It could be a fold or fault: Anticline, syncline, normal fault, reverse fault, transform or strike slip fault. It could be an intrusive volcanism feature: sill, dike, laccolith, batholith.
Explain how the feature was created.
Does the feature effect humans in any way?

Post #1 Remote Sensing

Remote sensing is viewing things from a distance. In Geography this is done through air photo's and satellite images. Search the web and find an air photo or satellite image. Explain what the image is and what it might be used for. Good luck!
